This species is also from South America; but is very different from the other Ipheions in that it prefers a slightly acidic soil rich in organic matter and year-round rainfall. This sums up the climatic conditions in our location! Actually its not considered to be an Ipheion anymore, but somehow it seems to fit in here for listing purposes. It is a dwarf species that slowly forms spreading rosettes suitable for containers or rock gardens; forming honey-scented fragrant bright yellow crocus-shaped flowers at about 4" in height. It blooms almost continuously for us from early January to late March. Good for growing in zones 8-10.
