This delightful and very floriferous South American species is one of the first to bloom for us in the March and continues to bloom in waves for us until the end of May with every rainfall. A very prolific reproducer that thrives in full sun with ample moisture. Very light pink to white with a darker throat--a great species to begin a collection! Probably the best blooming rain lily we grow. Good for zones 8-10.

This easy to grow and popular species hails from Brazil and blooms in waves throughout the summer for us. It prefers a partially shaded location and ample moisture throughout the growing season. This species has large pink trumpet shaped cups and is a rapid reproducer. Good for growing in zones 8-10.

There are lots of variations, hybrids, and strains of Habranthus robustus. This particular and unusual strain is a favorite form with very dark rose-tipped petals that are pale pinkish-white lower down and with a lime green throat. Very striking! 'Fletcher' seems to respond to the same care as any other Habranthus robustus--that is, partial shade and ample moisture. It blooms for us in late spring through early summer and is really very special! Grows good in zones 8-10 and a picture will soon be available.

This form of Habranthus robustus has large, very pale pink blooms throughout the summer months. It also has a slightly taller stem or scape compared to the other forms of Habranthus robustus but has the same easy care.  Probably the tallest blooming Habranthus on the shortest foliage; a robust grower and excellent reproducer. Likes partial shade and lots of moisture; blooms early summer and repeat blooms if its happy. Seed stable and blooms from seed for us in 16 months. Our stock on this is frequently biflorous--this makes it our favorite Habranthus robustus variety! Good for zones 8-10.

Habranthus x floryii is not the most beautiful Habranthus hybrid or species we grow, but it takes the cake for sheer bulb and bloom size. It opens pale pink and ages to white with pale pink tinged petal tips. This is probably the best of any rain lily candidate for landscape uses--its big and bold enough to really make a statement from a distance. Habranthus x floryii is a hardy hybrid of Habranthus robustus and Habranthus brachyandrus. It reproduces quickly to form large clumps and is easy to care for and very popular. Good for zones 8-10.

This delightful yellow species is the South American cousin of the native Texas species. The flowers usually appear before the foliage in mid summer and bloom off and on until fall. This species is easy to care for and seems to thrive on neglect in full sun with average rainfall. This is a shorter variety than Habranthus tubispathus var texensi and is actually naturalized in the lawns in our area. Good for zones 8-10.

This unusual form of the species has very dramatic buds--pink with rose stripes on the outside and then opens to a pale pinkish-yellow. This species prefers to grow in winter and quickly goes dormant with the heat of June for us. Likes ample moisture and partial shade during growth but tolerates drier conditions when dormant. A shorter and smaller blooming variety. Good for zones 7-9.

This is probably the most beautiful form of Habranthus tubispathus which is also a Texas native! This species blooms on taller scapes than the other two forms of Habranthus tubispathus and has rich, coppery-golden blooms with distinctive reddish stripes on the exterior. It likes full sun and good moisture when in growth. It blooms profusely and repeatedly for us from June through October, whenever rainfall permits. A lot of the country is envious of Texans ability to actually make this variety bloom; it requires both heat in summer and summer rainfall. Some bulb enthusiasts insist on calling this species Habranthus texanus; but in Texas, Habranthus tubispathus var texensi is accepted nomenclature for the 'Copper Lily'. Somewhat slow to reproduce from offsets, it is a reliable seed producer and quite easy to grow from seed forming large colonies under the right conditions. Our very favorite form of this species!
